Is manipulation under anesthesia a viable alternative to back surgery?
If you have been told you need back surgery, you owe it to yourself to find out everything you can about how to avoid it. Back surgery is by far the most unsuccessful form of surgery there is and estimates for long term recovery are not great. There is an alternative to surgery that many people don’t know about called manipulation under anesthesia. This procedure restores lost motion to the spinal joints so that the normal process of disc nutrition and fluid exchange can occur. The problem with most physical treatments is that the patient is in too much pain to receive the treatment and they guard against any movement. By putting the patient in a light sedation these reflex mechanisms are bypassed and the patient can receive the treatment they need.
